The flame and the fire

I lit a flame of hope in my heart,

To spread the optimism in the dark;

It was bright, bold and beautiful,

My dull, lull life was so delightful;

The flame soon turned into a fire,

The fire of expectations and desire,

The urge to have more and more,

Burning the heart with the scars sore;

It hurt the heart with disillusionment,

Burning to ashes that serene sentiment,

Then I learned that the flame must burn,

But, not expecting anything in return.
